What to wear is one of the most common questions before a session. Here's a framework that works whether it's a couple, a family, or a solo portrait.
Coordinate, don't match: Pick a palette of two or three soft, complementary tones and let everyone pull from it. Matching outfits read dated; a coordinated palette reads intentional.
Lean into San Diego light: Soft, earthy tones — cream, sage, warm neutrals, denim — sit beautifully against the coast and golden light. Avoid tight patterns and bright neons, which fight the background.
Dress for movement: My sessions involve walking and moving, so wear things you can actually move in. Flowing fabrics photograph wonderfully because they catch the breeze.
For families: Start with the hardest person to dress, then build everyone else's outfits around their palette. Comfortable kids photograph far better than perfectly dressed unhappy ones.
When in doubt, text me: Once you book, I'm happy to look at options. A two-minute wardrobe check the week before saves the night-before panic.
