Carlsbad has the most variety of anywhere in North County — wide state beaches, the famous spring Flower Fields, the calm Batiquitos Lagoon, and a cluster of the region's best wedding resorts. Whatever the season, there's a strong backdrop within a few minutes' drive.
It's a workhorse location for me: family beach sessions, resort weddings, and golden-hour engagements all live comfortably here.
Getting there: About 35 minutes north of downtown; central to all of North County.
Local know-how: The Flower Fields require paid admission and are wildly popular in April — weekday mornings are the move. The Crossings and Aviara are hilltop venues with sweeping sunset views to the west.

The marine layer often keeps the coast overcast into the afternoon — soft, even light, but plan for gray skies.
Local summer
September and October often bring the coast's warmest, clearest days, with fewer crowds once school is back.
