An engagement session is the best thing you can do before your wedding. It's a low-stakes hour to get comfortable in front of the camera, figure out how you two move together, and come away with images for save-the-dates and the wall.
Encinitas is the laid-back heart of the North County coast — surf breaks, flower-lined bluffs, and the meditation gardens above Swami's. It has a softer, more bohemian feel than the resort towns, which suits couples who want something a little less formal.
Local know-how: Bluff parking along Coast Highway 101 is limited on weekends. The Botanic Garden requires a photography reservation for sessions, which I'll arrange.

Somewhere that's yours. Popular San Diego spots include La Jolla Cove, Sunset Cliffs, Balboa Park, and the desert near Anza-Borrego — but a meaningful backyard beats a scenic cliché every time.
How far ahead of the wedding should we book?+
Four to six months out is ideal — enough time to use the images for save-the-dates and to get comfortable with me before the wedding day.
